Our Founders

The Web Spinners Guild was founded by Michael Davis and Steven Crandall of Web Spinners LLC. Originally conceived by Michael to provide free, friendly tech support on Web Development and discounted services for other web developers, the guild is also willing to help others in a free and friendly manner. The Guild has grown in both its Physical size and its Free services to include helping non-profit organizations worldwide.

The Guild is currently applying for non-profit status to provide our services full-time to non-profits and supporters. By becoming non-profit we will be available to accept contributions from private companies to fund our mission and grow to new levels. We would like to be able to teach Urban Youth and Senior Citizens all facets of web development (Graphic design and Layout, Scripting, HTML, etc.) and use them to provide services to non-profits.

The Web Spinners Guild has always supported Human Rights and non-discrimination. Michael has worked for organizations such as the S. C. Wildlife Federation, National Campaign for the Environment, Citizen Action, and Citizens Campaign in 13 states shortly before starting Web Spinners LLC and then the Web Spinners Guild. Always defending the "under-dog", Michael has enjoyed doing things that were said to be impossible and succeeding. Though not always visible He is always busy working on new ways to help others and make this "Spaceship/planet" a better place for all.

Steven has worked for national computer companies like Inacom, providing help and support on technical issues for companies like Westinghouse and Dusquesne Light. Steven has also been involved with human rights and environmental groups by supporting with financial memberships, organizations like Clean Water Action and Public Interest Research Group.

After playing a few rounds of Chess, Michael convinced Steve to help run Web Spinners, as the Internet was not "going away" and needed better service than what was largely available. Within months of their partnership, Web Spinners was well on its way as the premiere Internet Presence Provider in Pennsylvania and the World. With Steven's years of tech support experience and Michael's years of lobbying and strategic program meeting experience, the two comprise a well rounded and complemented team.

Within months Web Spinners was doing well enough that Michael was able to project and plan its growth to provide "free" services to Schools and non-profits locally. As they became more successful and captured more of the local market, Michael was able to expand the free services to include the creation of the Web Spinners Guild. This also required a commitment from Steven to provide ongoing tech support for Guild Members and supporters. At this point the Web Spinners Guild was officially "founded" and began accepting members for $5.00 per year. Members must only agree to a few rules of common decency to join and enjoy great benefits.

The Web Design contest was Michaels idea to get more recognition for up and coming talent and to help developers of all levels by bringing them all together via the Guild mailing list activities. As an afterthought, Michael contacted other companies to see if they would be interested in sponsoring the Guild and or the Contests. As the Next Web Design Contest gets underway, we lack only participants, the sponsors are on board!!
